ADULT WORKSHOPS (Playshops, Deep Dive, Intro to Modern)
Upcoming:
Intro to Modern Workshop: 4 Sundays in September 8, 15, 22, 29
1:30-3 pm
Shawl-Anderson Dance Center
Playshops are movement workshops where we discuss movement mysteries and discoveries that we’re encountering in community with one another, play creative games, do some dancing, and look at our own creativity, influences, and try some ideas. Any and all levels welcome and encouraged! While we often talk about dance from a lens of modern dance aesthetics and lineage, all of the experiences you bring to our conversations and practice enrich our community and our practice, whether sports, work, navigating injuries and health concerns, or other dance styles.
STUDENT FEEDBACK:
“With great care, Suzanne invites you to stretch and mutate not only your physical dance vocabulary, but what dance means for you altogether. Her deceptively simple instruction opens portals to a freer and wiser sense of physical knowing, and bridges us together beautifully (even through screens!).” -Playshop participant
“Playshop feels like a community of discoverers, even over zoom, with Suzanne as the adventurous guide”. - Playshop participant
“Suzanne's class is hearty and thoughtful. The movement explorations are expansive and honest. This class invited me to rethink every dance lesson I've ever learned, in the best way. I left with brand new tools and pathways. I felt challenged, successful, and totally supported." -Adult Modern student
“I took a 4-week Modern Dance Playshop with Suzanne during Spring 2017 and it was one of the best classes I have ever experienced in my path as a mover. Suzanne offers a wide variety of exercises and approaches to dance that make it easy for people with diverse backgrounds to understand movement and appreciate it. Class was challenging and easy to follow at the same time, energizing and relaxing all together. Participating in this class definitely expanded my abilities as a dancer and it gave me precise, detailed knowledge to rely on in my personal learning process. What's more this class provided me with a reliable and expert guide for my artistic growth.” - Playshop student
“I have improved significantly because of Suzanne. I hope to have her again. No one else has pushed me so far off my comfort zone, and I really feel gutsy. She explains concepts in a way that I can actually understand.” -Elon University Student, 2016
Suzanne “made an effort to get to know us, and what we were capable of, and I think created a great class that worked in many spaces. I would say she creates a great environment that feels safe and fun, and one where we can make mistakes and ask questions.” - City College of San Francisco Student, 2021
